Melis’s practice focuses on employment litigation, including defense against claims of wrongful termination, discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour, and punitive damages. Melis works in diverse forums, from arbitration proceedings to state-wide Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA) actions. She has litigated in State and Federal Courts, serving in national and local counsel roles.
Melis started her legal career in San Francisco working for a premier plaintiff’s law firm, focusing her practice on national mass tort litigation against pharmaceutical and medical device companies. Before joining Klein, Hockel, Iezza & Patel, she worked at a national law firm providing counsel to Fortune 500 companies where she specialized in business litigation, real estate, and personal injury actions, with various clients that ranged from numerous drivers utilizing rideshare applications, to warehouse owners to multinational insurance carriers.
Melis attended UC Hastings College of Law on a Dean’s Scholarship. While at Hastings, Melis recieved the CALI Award for Excellence (top student) for her participation with the UCSF-UC Hastings Medical Legal Partnership Clinic. Also, Melis received the Wiley C. Manuel Certificate for her extensive pro bono legal services provided to veterans and small businesses. Melis served as a teacher’s assistant with UC Hastings Moot Court and Legal Writing and Research Department, and as an Executive Managing Editor of the Hastings Communications and Entertainment Law Journal.
